🌿 Why Inclusivity Matters in the Wedding Industry

(And Where to Find Suppliers Who Truly Care)

Planning a wedding should be one of the most exciting experiences in your life — but for many couples, especially those in the LGBTQ+ community or from underrepresented backgrounds, it can still feel like navigating a space that wasn’t built with them in mind.

At Botanical Weddings, we believe the wedding industry needs to do better — and we’re proudly trying to be part of the change.

💚 Our Approach to Inclusive Weddings

We don’t just create beautiful, plant-filled wedding spaces (although we love doing that too). We work hard to make sure every couple feels safe, seen, and celebrated — just as they are.

Inclusivity for us means:

  • Using gender-inclusive language in all our communications and materials
  • Celebrating LGBTQ+ love stories with the same care and enthusiasm we bring to every wedding
  • Supporting cultural expression and tradition, however it looks for you
  • Making space for learning, always — because inclusivity is an ongoing journey, not a finished product

Some of our most meaningful feedback has come from couples who simply felt comfortable working with us. And truly, there’s no better compliment.

Like this message we received recently:

“I just wanted to say, I came across your blog post on Rebel Love Directory from December 2024. It was so lovely! We’ve used Rebel Love a lot to plan our wedding, and as a bi woman myself, it was amazing and affirming to see you included in the blog — so excited to work with you for our wedding ☺️”

Knowing that someone felt safe, seen, and excited to work with us? That’s what it’s all about.

✨ The Problem With “Bride & Groom”

Let’s talk about something small that speaks volumes.

We still come across wedding forms and vendor emails that start with:
“Please enter the name of the bride and groom.”

Now imagine being a same-sex couple, a non-binary partner, or just two people who don’t resonate with those roles. That tiny box can feel incredibly uncomfortable — or even excluding.

Inclusive language is easy to implement, and it makes a world of difference. “Couple’s names” or “Partner 1 / Partner 2” is a simple switch. But more than that, it shows your values.

We believe every wedding supplier should be actively educating themselves — because love has always existed in every form. It’s the industry that needs to catch up.

🌈 Why We Love the Rebel Love Directory

One of our favourite resources for finding inclusive wedding suppliers is the Rebel Love Directory — and we’re proud to be listed there.

Not only have we connected with incredible couples through the directory, but it’s also a place we confidently point our clients to when they ask:
“Do you know a photographer / celebrant / makeup artist who’ll get us?”

There’s something amazing about arriving at a wedding and seeing familiar faces — other vendors who get it. Who don’t ask awkward questions. Who already respect you.

Rebel Love Directory has created a space for exactly that kind of vendor community — and it’s growing. We encourage every couple (especially those from LGBTQ+ communities, BIPOC backgrounds, or anyone who feels overlooked by the mainstream industry) to check it out.

🌿 Looking Ahead: What We’ll Keep Doing

We’re not perfect. But we are committed.
To learning. To listening. To being better.

As we grow Botanical Weddings, we’ll continue:

  • Sharing and celebrating diverse love stories
  • Removing assumptions from our booking process
  • Creating calm, judgement-free spaces at every touchpoint
  • Supporting directories and platforms that uplift all couples

And of course — surrounding your day with thriving, living plants, styled sustainably, with care and intention.
